The Kenya Organization for Environmental Education (KOEE) has been implementing the Litter Less Campaign in Kenya in 17 schools in Nairobi and Kiambu Counties. The Campaign is sponsored by Wrigley Foundation which partnered by Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that aims are reducing litter in schools and communities and effecting positive behavior change among youth in litter management. KOEE has been implementing the Campaign as a FEE chapter in Kenya and overseen by the Wrigley East Africa Office in Nairobi. The Campaign was launched in Kenya in February 2014.
Since its launch, the Campaign has seen the schools in the Campaign carry out different activities geared at promoting sustainable solid waste management in the schools and in neighboring schools and communities. Most of the schools have been advocating for waste separation and putting generated waste into further productive uses through recycling and reusing the waste. With an estimated student population of about 13,500 among the 17 schools; the Campaign has surely gone a long way in instilling the culture of proper waste management in schools and in the wider community.
To check the progress of the Campaign in schools, Wrigley EA Company and KOEE organized for sample visits to three schools in order to quantify the Campaign impact. Wrigley EA was represented by Mrs. Wanjiru Nduati – Senior Corporate Affairs Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa
