The training covered subjects like whole institution approach, livestock production, value addition, agribusiness and the faith based education for sustainable development. As part of the training and capacity-building, the faith-leaders were also treated to field visits to faith groups that have already made substantial progress in micro-project implementation as well as to other small-scale farm-based micro-projects implemented by farmers within the two host counties – with a view to learning good practices that can be replicated and up-scaled in other regions. The various faith-groups reported the progress in implementation of the micro-projects in their respective areas, including any challenges faced. The climax of the training saw the participants’ partnering with faith groups and local community-based organizations to plant trees at Esibila Primary in Vihiga County on 22nd May 2014. This was aimed at creating more awareness and sensitizeing the locals on the importance of adopting eco-systems-based approaches to address climate change and improve livelihoods – targeting conservation of the Mt. Elgon water tower.
