KOEE and the Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC) jointly hosted a sensitization seminar for faith-based schools on faith-based education for sustainable development at Chavakali High School. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is a concept that goes beyond environmental education, it also achieves the “ three pillars of human development” proposed by UNDP: economic growth, social development, and environmental protection. ESD focuses on the underlying principles and values conveyed through the content and purpose of education, which encompasses a broader social project and goals of development. The purpose of the workshop was to bring educators and faith leaders from different religions, such as Christian and Muslim together to discuss the challenges and benefits of Sustainable Development in Kenya. The end goals of the seminar were;
Increased awareness among teachers on the education of sustainable development and faith values with in their own schools
Promoting faith values in ESD using the Eco- school strategy
Enhanced the faith based value systems and positive behaviours in schools and community in order to promote sustainable development using the eco school strategy
