Hello Everyone, My name is Bobbi Reierson; I am a junior studying political science and environmental policy at American University in Washington DC, though I am originally from Oregon (above California.) Oregon is where my love of nature and desire to protect the environment began. My family and I spent much of my childhood exploring the forests, rivers, and lakes of the Cascade Mountains. At an early age I learned to appreciate the precious resources of Mother Nature as environmental education was a significant part of the curriculum in my local schools. Hence my belief that through education the environment can be greatly improved and eventually saved. This is one of the reasons that I asked to be an intern with KOEE, because they do not overlook schools or small communities where true change can and must happen As a political science student concentrating in domestic policy, my decision to come to Kenya was made out of a desire to experience a different culture for four months. I was a bit nervous about leaving my home, family, and friends for such a length of time, but after a short three weeks in Kenya, I can honestly say I am so happy that I came. Nairobi is a wonderful place full of so many interesting people, despite the traffic! I think that my biggest challenges and successes will stem from working, studying and meeting with Kenyans (oh, also attempting Kiswahili!) I am curious to learn about environmental issues specific to Kenya and hopefully help others learn too. There will likely be moments of confusion, but I look forward to experiencing Nairobi and making new friends! As a new intern at KOEE, I am very excited to learn as much as possible about Kenya’s people and environment, and also try to contribute to the wonderful work being done here
