Prior to the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) held a regional consultative meeting with major stakeholders in the region, in conjunction with the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance in Gaborone, Botswana. This Pre-AMCEN consultative meeting took place from October 12-13th. Since the AMCEN meeting aimed at consolidating and enhancing Africa’s common negotiating position in upcoming climate change talks, the meeting will have implications for climate change projects such as those conducted by KOEE. Faith Based efforts to provide education of climate change can play a large role in the region. As a result, KOEE had the chance to showcase the Faith Based Education for Sustainable Development Teacher’s Toolkit at themeeting along with otherfaith-based programs thatit has carried out. The African Ministers of the Environment showed a lot of interest in these efforts. As a result of the meeting,KOEE hopes to mainstream its strategy of faith based education, to adapt its toolkit for use by other countries, to help establish regional and national faith groups to engage them in environmental activities and to support regional pilot activities to promote the faith based initiative.
